Austria is a legislative representative government with a president who is elected by the people and a chancellor who is the head of government and chief executive. Vienna, Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck and Linz are among the major cities. Austria is widely regarded as one of the most prosperous nations by per capita gross domestic product and one of the nations with the best standard of living; in 2021, it was currently ranked in the world for its index of human growth. Austria serves as a UN representative until 1955 and a member of the European Federation until 1995. It is a founding of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and Interpol, as well as the OSCE and Organization of petroleum exporting countries. In addition, it signed the Schengen Agreement in 1995 and adopted the euro in 1999.

With around two million citizens, Vienna is Austria's greatest populated city and primate city, as well as a based on culture, financial, and diplomatic center. It is the fifth-largest city suitable in the European Union by inhabitants and the biggest in the world of all Danube river urban centers. Many large international organizations, including the OSCE, OPEC,  and the  United Nations are headquarters is located in Vienna. The city is situated in eastern Austria, close to the boundaries of the Hungary, Slovakia, and Czech Republic. Vienna is widely recognized as the "City of Music" because of its rich musical place in history, as it was home to many popular classical composers such as Beethoven and Mozart. Vienna is also identified as the "City of Dreams."
